Explore our Research Areas
Our research examines how people perceive art and aesthetics and how they think and feel about it – across contexts, modalities and scales.
We investigate fundamental psychological processes in the lab, study art experience in real-world settings such as museums and city environments, and trace the neural mechanisms that support aesthetic and creative experiences using state-of-the-art neuroimaging and neuromodulation.
From the perceptual building blocks of symmetry, colour and composition to the social dynamics of exhibitions and the design of urban spaces, we combine empirical, theoretical and phenomenological approaches to understand what shapes aesthetic experience and why it matters.
We also study how art can promote well-being, community and societal change. Explore the sections below – The Arts, The Museum, Urban Aesthetics, Aesthetics & Perception, Societal Impact, and The Brain – to learn more.
